SICI hold its first Fun2Run event in University of Manila oval track and field last December 4, 2010 from 5:00 AM to 10:10 AM for the employees and their families and love one.
The run consisted of 1K, 3K, and 5K for kids, women and men beginner and elite runners with fun games for the families. Awards were given. My wife and I joined the 5K for beginners since I have to be with her while running (actually a little bit of running, jogging and brisk walking).
Although it was drizzling with cold shower rain early in the morning, many who committed to join the fun braved the early morning rise and rain. Children of employees also came and participated.
The event started on time and with the cloudy sky, the event went well.
OUR RUN
The 5K run started on time about 7:45 with several rounds of the oval track and field. Our president, Ms. Patty Chilip, fired the gun and all we went.
In the first 150 meters, me and my wife were last among the runners. At about 200 meters, the lead pack is with us. It was strategy to run slow in the beginning since lactic acid will come and my wife might suffer and quit. After the 1st round, my wife was heated up and running her usual pace, about 7 minutes per kilometer. We run together, slow run, fast run, slow jog, fast jog, walk a little. When we reached the finished line, we got 38 minutes and my wife was elated for her very first run, a 5K run,
It was almost a year and a half since we are jogging every other day in our home yard. I bought last year Hip Hop Abs Vol 1 -8 DVD which she do every other day when she is not jogging. Now I thing my wife is ready for minor climb or easy major climb like Mt. Pulag, Ambangeg – Ambangeg Trail. But our pocket may not be ready yet since the cost per person is about Php. 2,000, hehehe.
INJURY
Amazing. I am not injured. My osteoarthropathy did not return. That is space between two joints are narrowing due to over use, wear and tear, or age, LOL, harharhar : ) .
I got only some muscle pain on my two hamstrings. Reason may be is my training is only for 3 kilometers. I am not aiming for speed but by endurance for climbing steep mountains.
My wife got no injury, except her muscle just below the knee. It usually hurt when she is heavy. The cure is to reduce weight by longer exercises and less carbo.
AFTER THOUGHTS
This no-injury run gave me confidence to join triathlon next year 2011. Will start training after the climb and traverse of Mt. Kanlaon on Jan 26 - 30, 2010. Yehey. Ahoo! Ahoo!
